We embark on an adventure along the north-west coast of Naxos, starting from Naxos Town and heading north via the main road. Shortly, we leave the paved path behind and take a scenic rural road, winding through the countryside until we reach the serene Amitis Bay. From there, we follow a stunning coastal trail, which leads us to the quaint chapel of Prophitis Elias (Prophet Elias). Here, we pause briefly to soak in the breathtaking panoramic views and refresh ourselves.
Afterward, we cross the main road, riding past the tranquil waters of Faneromeni’s dam. Our journey then takes us on an invigorating uphill dirt trail, surrounded by towering rocky mountains, livestock farms, beehives, and trickling creeks, immersing us in the raw beauty of Naxos’ natural landscape. At the trail’s end, we arrive at Skeponi, a long-abandoned village since the 1970s, nestled amidst lush vegetation—a hidden gem frozen in time.
Here, we take our final break, exploring the tranquil village and letting the peaceful atmosphere wash over us. It’s a moment to truly connect with the untouched beauty of the landscape. After our brief sojourn, we retrace our path back to Naxos Town, carrying with us the memories of this unforgettable journey.
*If weather conditions permit, we’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim.
